MONA 24 Carrot Gold Garden
At Windermere Primary School we enjoy teaching and learning in beautiful landscaped grounds. We also have a fantastic school garden that we run with generous sponsorship from MONA and accredited within the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden model. Our classes have full use of the garden from seed to plate utilising our GROW shed. We also have three dedicated staff members who run our kitchen/garden program Michael Godfrey, Billy Rankin and Kara Spence who teach Sustainable Living with our various groups.
Our Grounds and Facilities
Our school is situated on the headland between the two beautiful bays of Windermere Bay and Connewarre Bay right on the waterfront at Claremont some 12 kilometres north of Hobart’s CBD. Our landscaped grounds and modern buildings make the most of our surrounds looking across the Derwent River with the Cadbury chocolate factory to our north and MONA the Museum of Old and New Art to our south. To our east we have expansive views of Mount Wellington.
Teaching and Learning Facilities
We boast some of the most modern educational facilities in the country with a state of the art pod building design which has our students learning across three age based pods all of which housing seven classrooms in each pod. All of our classrooms have the ability to operate as either individual rooms or be opened up into large inter-classrooms to better differentiate learning across like classes. Our Early Childhood classrooms have been purpose built and have an early childhood play area which boasts its own large shed incorporating a sandpit, landscaped grounds and mud kitchen.
Our three learning pods are further supported by an administration block, PE-Music-Drama block, and our combined Garden and Woodworking facilities. Come and have a look ……..a wonderful place for children to both play and learn!
Technology is used to support learning programs and assist students with developing their skills using digital pedagogies. Our students and staff have the support of one of our teachers Matt Rice who works alongside teachers and students in their classrooms to provide guidance and support. We are also supported by two hardware/software support officers in Jamie and Adam who maintain and manage our large fleet of devices.
All learning spaces have interactive whiteboards and these are also supported with fleets of both laptops and iPad devices within all three pods. Digital pedagogies are used to support learning programs and the school uses a number of programs including IXL Maths, Reading Eggs, Class Dojo with students to support their literacy and numeracy learning. All of our school facilities also utilise the latest NBN broadband connections and all buildings are CBUS equipped.
Physical Education forms an integral part of the learning program through weekly PE classes and student led fitness activities. Our school participates in the Southern Primary Schools Sports Association (SPSSA) carnival in Athletics, Cross Country & Swimming. Our school also fields team in Hockey, Football and Netball in the annual regional inter-school representative rosters.
