Teaching and Learning Facilities
We run a schools within school concept with our students spread across four learning pods. We boast some of the most modern educational facilities in the country with a state of the art pod building design which has our students learning across four age based pods all of which housing seven classrooms in each pod. In 2018 we completed our Reggio Emilia inspired Early Learning Centre which has been designed and built for our LIL, Kindergarten and Prep students. This building links seamlessly with two nature based play grounds.
Our four learning pods are further supported by an administration block, PE-Music-Drama block, and our combined Kitchen/Garden and STEM facilities. Come and have a look ……..a wonderful place for children to play and learn!
Our Grounds and Facilities
Our school is situated on the headland between the two beautiful bays of Windermere Bay and Connewarre Bay right on the waterfront at Claremont some 12 kilometres north of Hobart’s CBD. Our landscaped grounds encompass some 16 acres of waterfront land and our modern buildings make the most of our surrounds looking across the Derwent River with the Cadbury chocolate factory to our north and MONA the Museum of Old and New Art to our south. To our east we have expansive views of Mount Wellington.
Technology is used to support learning programs and assist students with developing their skills using digital pedagogies. Our students and staff have the support of one of our teachers Chris Purtell who works alongside students and teachers in their classrooms to provide guidance and support. We are also supported by two hardware/software support officers in Jamie and Adam who maintain and manage our large fleet of laptops and Ipads.
All learning spaces have interactive screens and these are also supported with fleets of both laptops and iPad devices within all four pods. Digital pedagogies are used to support learning programs and the school uses a number of programs including IXL Maths, Reading Eggs, Class Dojo with students to support their literacy and numeracy learning. All of our school facilities also utilise the latest NBN broadband connections and all buildings are CBUS equipped.
Physical Education forms an integral part of the learning program through weekly PE classes and student led fitness activities at lunchtimes. Our school participates in the Southern Primary Schools Sports Association (SPSSA) carnival in Athletics, Cross Country & Swimming. Our school also fields team in Football and Netball in the annual regional inter-school representative rosters.
MONA 24 Carrot Gold Garden
At Windermere Primary School we enjoy teaching and learning in beautiful landscaped grounds. We also have a fantastic school garden that we run with generous sponsorship from MONA and accredited within the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden model. Our classes have full use of the garden from seed to plate utilising our GROW shed. We also have two dedicated staff members who run our kitchen/garden program Eranthos and Billy who teach Sustainable Living with our various class groups.
